With a mission to empower the skilled workforce in the country, the Ministry of Finance under the Government of India set up National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in 2008. NSDC is responsible for monitoring the skill development programs so that they must meet the set guidelines & government standards. National Skill Development Corporation acts as a catalyst for speeding up the skill development programs in India.
If the studies reported by the Business Line in 2019 were to be believed out of 33.9 lakh skilled candidates under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, around 10 Lakh candidates secured good jobs for themselves. Such reports & analysis proves the success of this skill India projects.
More about National Skill Development Corporation
Started in 2008, under the Companies Act, 1956, the NSDC non- profit organization which is focused on improvising & assisting in skill development programs in India. This government body is responsible for providing skilled workforce in India. NSDC was registered under the Ministry of Finance as the Public-Private Partnership model. As per the official data, the government hold a 49% share whereas the private sector holds a 51% share of NSDC.
It is unbelievable to see the success rate of National Skill Development Corporation. Till now NSDC has skilled over 1.12 crore individuals with the help of 462 training partners & more than 11,000 training centres. Over 50.68 lakh candidates have been successfully placed in reputed jobs. The main objective of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is to secure the funding for the training programs as the candidates enrolled in these program has no need to pay any fee. The program is completely funded by the public & private sectors. Also, it aims at providing quality education via vocation centres to train the candidates. It also facilitates the support systems to specialise in quality assurance.
The Vision of Skill India Program
In summary, the vision is to train over 40 crore individuals in specific skills with high-quality training. The inception of NSDC was to empower & support the skill development programs in India, therefore the mission & vision of National Skill Development Corporation coincide with the vision of Skill India Projects. The ultimate goal is to venture into newer sectors by providing specifically trained youths.
Earlier the emphasis was only on traditional occupations, but after 2015 the view has changed. And now it emphasises on every possible sector where there is a requirement of skilled labour. Moreover, the National Skill Development Corporation aims at imparting high-quality education & training the college/ school/ institutions dropout, already educated individuals etc.

These training programs aim to a wider scope of training & seek to transform the skill training initiatives within the country. For example, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra has an objective to set a model training centre in every district in India whereas Udaan is specifically created for the youths in Jammu & Kashmir.
